On December 10, 2003 NIC.EC launched .EC second level domain registrations, so now is possible to register domains like yourname.ec, mycompany.ec , yourbrand.ec.

If you did not register your domains under .EC during the First Phase, now is the moment to register them and others that you want to use or protect.

Third Level .EC registrations , domains under com.ec , net.ec, info.ec, pro.ec, etc. , are maintained for new domain registrations as well as renewal of current domains registered, without any effect by the new option of registration directly under .EC.

NIC.EC announces the opening of registration of domains under .EC , second level domains .EC, that will begin on December 10, 2003.

The First Phase ended on November 25, 2003 , exclusive period for those that had domains registered under any of the extensions.EC.

Third Level .EC registrations , domains under com.ec , net.ec , info.ec , org.ec, etc. , are maintained for new domain registrations as well as renewal of current domains registered, without any effect by the new option of registration directly under .EC.

Most of the rules are the current ones for all domains .EC and some specific for those of second level , rules and details that are in NIC.EC web page and that will be updating until the launch date.

As previously announced, the First Phase of registrations of domains under .ec ended on November 15, 2003 , however this period is extended by 10 days, therefore confirmations can be sent until November 25, 2003. This will be notified to all contacts that still have not confirmed the reservation of domain under .ec

As previously announced last month, today begins the First Phase of registration for domains under .ec for those existing domains under other extensions.ec . The domains.ec were created with the same information of the originals.

If you want to register yourdomain.ec , send us a communication by email or fax confirming: 1. that you want to register it, 2. the domain name and, 3. if you want to register for 2, 3, or 5 years according to the published fees.

Take advantage of the benefit to be the first to register your domain.ec during First Phase, period that you will have exclusive preference until November 15, 2003. Protect your names!

This alternative that we offer is optional, while current domains and extensions.ec as com.ec , net.ec , info.ec , etc. will be maintain . This is not a change of your current domain name , is an additional registration , if you prefer so.

Also, it is recommendable you maintain both domain names. Domain names registered through Domain Registrars, Internet Service Providers, Web Hosting or Design Providers, IP Agents, etc. , it is recommendable to coordinate with them the domain confirmation.

Starting today, you can also have yourdomain.ec !

Domain Names .EC soon may be registered under .ec and not only under .com.ec, .net.ec, etc. The implementation process will be in two phases. The first phase is a specific period for those that have domains registered in NIC.EC, who may register these domains under .ec . The second phase is the open registration for everyone.

On October 15, 2003 , the process begins with the registration of the domains that are registered in NIC.EC under the different extensions that are in use. In order to obtain an efficient process, domains under .ec will be created and it is only necessary to send an email confirming the registration, the domain name(s) and the selected term.

The domain names will be created with the same contacts and name servers information that is detailed in the current domains, thus is important that the information is accurate and updated. Once the confirmation is received, domains will be invoiced and once they are paid, the domains will be activated. Preliminary, the term for receiving the confirmation will be one month after the launch of the First Phase.

The minimum registration period is two years, and the minimum renewal period is one year. The fees are the following:

The renewal fee is $50 per year, and multi year renewal is available. All fees are plus VAT tax.

Domain names registered through Domain Registrars, Internet Service Providers, Web Hosting or Design Providers, IP Agents, etc. , it is recommended to coordinate with them the domain confirmation.

The domain names that will be created under .ec must comply with the general policies and specific policies that are settle for domain name registration under .ec.

This is an exclusive opportunity to protect your names before the open registration launch. The confirmations that are sent before the mentioned date, will be received but the domains will be invoiced starting October 15.

The launch date for the second phase will be later than the end of the first phase process in a date to be announced.

Current extensions or second level domains under .ec will be maintained both for new registrations and for renewals.

Multi-year fees for domain name registration or renewal were significantly reduced. Many registrants prefer to register or renew for many years at once in order to prevent loses for not renewing domain names, such as web page or email not working through the risk that a third party register the not renewed domain name.

Fees for one year for domain registration or renewal under the extensions .PRO.EC , .MED.EC y .FIN.EC were significantly reduced, thus becoming more economically attractive for professionals such as lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc.

Registrations under INFO.EC are already available for this extension which had the largest growth during 2002.
