Domains names that are registered in the .ec level are the second level domains, names directly at .ec like mydomain.ec and third level domains under several .ec extensions like mydomain.com.ec

The names under the following extensions may be registered by:

Companies, organizations or persons
Ecuadorian or non Ecuadorian
Without local presence requirement

EC	Use in general.
COM.EC	Commercial use in general.
INFO.EC	Information in general.
NET.EC	Providers of Internet Services.
FIN.EC	Financial Institutions and Financial Services.
MED.EC	Medical , Health or Pharmaceutical Institutions and Organizations and related with Medicine subjects.
PRO.EC	For professionals in general like lawyers, architects, accountants, etc.

The names under the following extensions may be registered by:

Legal Entities registered in Ecuador
With local presence requirement
Other specific requirements apply

ORG.EC	Only for Non Profit Organizations and Institutions, or nongovernmental Organizations that are registered in Ecuador.
EDU.EC	Only for Educational Organizations or Institutions such as Schools, Universities, Colleges and Institutes registered in Ecuador.
GOV.EC	Only for use of the Government of the Republic of Ecuador and its governmental institutions.
MIL.EC	Only for use of the Armed Forces of Ecuador.

The general and specific conditions for registry are according to specified in the NIC.EC Policies and the Registry Agreement. Certain specific conditions exist for certain second level domains, same that also are detailed in the NIC.EC Policies.
It is possible that other second level domains exist, that were used in the past and which they can be active, nevertheless they may not be available for new registration.
