No, it is not required except for domains under gov.ec, mil.ec , org.ec and edu.ec

Which and how many are the allowed characters for a domain name?

The letters of the alphabet (A-Z), the digits (0-9), and the dash (-). It is not allow letters with accent, nor underlined. The required minimum length is of 3 characters and the maximum length is of 65 characters.

Is it allowed to register several domains in one same process?

Yes , it is possible to do a Bulk registration while all the Contacts , Registrant and DNS information is the same for all domain names to be registered.

When the domain name will be activated ?

The domain name will be active at the moment the payment is processed , thus the invoice must be paid for a domain to be activated.
